Hi V,
I only 2 box at the moment, just slowly making my way into this.
I had seen some setups though that use a hardware piece, (not sure what its called or who makes it), that lets you control all your pc's via the one keyboard and mouse. Is their a specific advantage to that vs. using a software solution that does the same thing?
I use 'Stardock's Multiplicity' and 'HotKeyNet' for what I do. I know there are all in one solutions but I started out with these and felt comfortable with them.
Thanks in advance!
There are as many flavors of hardware? multiboxing as there are different versions of software? multiboxing. :)
Many hardware multiboxers even consider themselves to be "hybrid?" multiboxers because they combine software? and hardware? solutions together.
I'll briefly go over the various types of hardware solutions and their respective benefits, and you can see if something works for your particular situation.

This is a quick view on how to do the Brewfest seasonal boss in BRD with 1 4-boxer and a solo tank. You probably can 5-box this with a prot pally tank, but we chose to take it easy.
The first section outlines how to do it with 1 tank and 4 shaman (1 resto / 4 ele).
The second section shows you how to "carry" someone.

Xerga was nice enough to post on the Vboxing forums with a question! Lets get right into it!
Hiya V!
I just had a question about the hunter 5boxing Deadmines video. It looks (to me at least) like you're assigning a raid icon & the pets are automatically attacking their designated targets. Could you share how you did that with those of us who don't know how to already? Thanks much, and I'm loving the site =)
Xerga
One of the key features in that video that everyone takes a moment to oogle over, is my use of Raid Icons as markers for my pet's targets.
Most of you will instantly recognize the all-familiar skull icon. Heck, sometimes I use it in pug runs ("Everyone kill the skull!!"). Raid icons are a very handy way — multiboxing or not — to have a visible visual cue for different roles?. In my raiding guild, every mage has "their" icon, which always gets used for them when they are assigned to sheep something. This simplifies the run and makes things nice and speedy since we don't have to go over the strat every time we pull trash.
...but I digress.
Raid icons are great for multiboxers because we are trying to keep track of multiple roles?. In the case of the hunters, I'm trying to keep track of which pet is tanking which mob.

This question was asked on a World of Warcraft e-mail alias at work, and I've gotten quite a few comments about my response. Since many feel it's useful, I'm reposting it here as a reference. :)
"I've decided to do the whole recruit-a-friend(myself) thing, and am planning on 2-boxing a hunter and priest.
The question is how to effectively dual box different classes?
Do i just put 1 on follow and essentially solo with the other class? Do i do most of my dps with the hunter, and just throw on SW:P with the priest and use the priest to heal the hunter/pet whe needed, during which time the hunter is just doing auto shot and nothing else?
Do i bind key presses such that an attack the hunter will only use once a match (say, hunter's mark) throws up SW:P, whie i can use some other lesser used ability of the hunter's as the priest doing /target ?
Or do I try to play both as much as possible, either alt tabbing quickly or just playing on my desktop and laptop simultaneously, pressing buttons on both keyboards furiously?
Anyone have any suggestsions/advice on this? (I'm open to any talent spec that makes this easiest... doesn't matter too much until 70 anyway)"
The trick to separate classes? (and indeed, separate roles?) is to find as many abilities that are similar, and match them up.
Alternately, a good idea is to find a nice rotation and basically “faceroll” the other character by putting a /castsequence with that rotation on every button on their bar. However, I find this to be very unelegant and not nearly as flexible as the first.
Judging by the FACTS — I know of only 1 multiboxer on the dual-boxing.com forums with a PvP title of ANY sort. How many other multiboxers are registered on this forum?
Let's make the generous assumption that
A) they are all active
B) they all multibox on WoW (as opposed to other games)
C) they all multibox two or more characters
D) all multiboxers are represented and registered on dual-boxing.com
Let's also make the (untrue) assumption that
A) all players of WoW worldwide pay $15/month in subscription fees
B) there are no more than 10 million subscribers since the original article was written
10,000,000 subscribers * $15/mo = $150,000,000
9414 dual-boxing.com members * 2 accounts each * $15/mo = $282,420
9414 dual-boxing.com members * 3 accounts each * $15/mo = $423,630
9414 dual-boxing.com members * 4 accounts each * $15/mo = $564,840
9414 dual-boxing.com members * 5 accounts each * $15/mo = $706,050
Assuming the (untrue) assumption that ALL multiboxers are 5-boxers:
$706,050 multiboxer revenue / $150,000,000 total revenue = 0.004707 of total revenue
Assuming ALL multiboxers are 4-boxers: 0.0037656 of total revenue
Assuming ALL multiboxers are 3-boxers: 0.0028242 of total revenue
Assuming ALL multiboxers are 2-boxers: 0.0018828 of total revenue

I can't believe the number of times I get whispered by a random person I don't even know. And not many polite whispers either. I've gotten everything from "ni hao" to random expletives to "where do I download that botting program? Tell me OR I REPORT YOU!"
Typically no amount of polite conversation will cease with the endless finger pointing. However, I have gotten some success out of conversations with the "How much money did you get?" folks. They're usually referring to the sale of accounts, though sometimes they mean the gold I earn via dailies (I'll go over that in a future post). Now, it goes without saying that selling in-game property is against the WoW Terms of Use, but to humor their illogical ideas, I present you with the following:

Multiboxing: The art of playing more than one character at the same time.
My name is Jennifer, aka Vyndree / Velath, and I am a 5-boxer. I multiboxed shaman before they were cool. My boyfriend and I multiboxed Karazhan. I am the wow forum defender of all that is multiboxing. GM Belfaire is my homeboy.
This video is for all the forum QQ'ers who want to see multiboxing hit the dust. Post in the suggestions forum where you belong.
This is a compilation of all of my previous multiboxing videos, with a few additions. It is literally the life story of my 5-box shammy group. You'll find a plethora of multiboxing-clips in here...
